Product overview
The Scorpion HKII-2221-12 is a brushless motor intended primarily for helicopter and ducted-fan installations. Its construction combines CNC-machined aluminum alloy parts with a gold-anodized finish, a nine-arm stator and six magnet poles. The stator uses 0.2mm laminations and an epoxy coating, while the winding is a 12 Turn Delta arrangement using 12-Strand 0.21mm wire. Winding wire is rated at 180 degrees C (356 F), and the magnets withstand up to 200 degrees C (392 F).
Installation space must accommodate a 27.9 mm (1.098 in) outside diameter, 38.3 mm (1.508 in) body length and 58.7 mm (2.311 in) overall shaft length. The shaft diameter is 3.17 mm (0.125 in), and motor weight is 81 Grams (2.86oz). Electrical specifications include 2580 RPM / Volt, a maximum 4s LiPo configuration, 38 Amps maximum continuous current and 530 Watts maximum continuous power. Motor timing is 5deg and drive frequency is 8kHz; no-load current is 1.50 Amps at 10 volts.
The supplied motor has attached 3.5mm male bullet connectors, with three female connectors, three heat-shrink pieces and four M3 screws included. Propeller use requires a separately purchased adapter for a 3.17mm shaft (1/8 inch). Geared installation requires sufficient clearance between the pinion and main gear to avoid binding. Bearings require periodic maintenance and replacement, including a small drop of oil on each bearing every 5-6 flights. The two-year materials and workmanship warranty excludes bearings and motor damage caused by bearing failure.
