GDL™ (GTAC DataLink) is a multimode broadband air-to-ground communication system from Jitai Hangkong Keji (Suzhou) Youxian Gongsi. It is intended for medium and large unmanned aircraft systems and eVTOL aircraft with demanding airworthiness requirements, carrying command and control, telemetry, flight parameters, images and video. Its civilian applications include inspection, cargo transport and passenger-carrying aircraft operations. A single device combines 1.4G self-organizing networking with public 4G/5G connectivity and also supports 5G-A.
GDL™ supports star and mesh network topologies, multiple aircraft and ground stations, relay operation, and roaming between self-organizing network base stations. The manufacturer specifies single-station coverage of 150 km, support for aircraft speeds of 500 km/h, latency of 25 ms, and throughput of 5 Mbps at 120 km for the 1.4G link. These are stated specifications. Its airworthiness-oriented development references DO160G, DO-178C, network security, ARP4761 safety analysis and ICAO required link performance assessment.
