Product overview

The HOBBYWING Platinum 80A V4 is a brushless electronic speed controller for aircraft motor control, with helicopter startup and governor functions and braking options for fixed-wing use. Its standard-voltage configuration accepts 3-6S LiPo batteries and carries continuous and peak current ratings of 80A and 100A. A 32-bit M4 ARM control core supports adjustable governor sensitivity, while helicopter mode provides an adjustable 8-25-second soft start. The drive uses synchronous rectification with Active Freewheeling.

The controller measures 84.3x38.2x20.4mm and weighs 97g, defining the component space and mass to accommodate during integration. Its supplied wiring comprises red and black 12AWG power leads, each 150mm long, and three black 12AWG motor leads, each 100mm long. The power leads have no connector; motor outputs use female 4.0 gold bullet connectors. An integrated switching BEC supplies servo power, with voltage adjustable from 5-8V in 0.1V increments. Its tabulated output is 10A, with momentary capability stated as 25A.

A dedicated programming port supports an LCD programming box, WiFi Express module and OTA Programmer; transmitter programming, LED setting cards and LED programming boxes are unsupported. Firmware upgrades require an LCD programming box or WiFi module. Flight logging captures minimum voltage, maximum current, maximum temperature and calibrated rotational speed, with a speed curve available in helicopter stored-governor mode. Four brake modes include reverse operation controlled through another radio channel. Protective functions cover startup, current, controller and capacitor temperature, overload, throttle-signal loss and abnormal input voltage.
