The HOBBYWING Platinum 120A V4 is a brushless electronic speed controller for integration into aircraft propulsion systems. Its applications include 500-550 class helicopters with 470-575mm main blades,.70-.90 class fixed-wing aircraft, 3D and lightweight FAI F3A aircraft, and electric ducted fans up to 90mm in diameter. The controller combines motor-speed governing with an integrated switch-mode BEC for servo power. Adjustable startup timing spans 8 to 25 seconds, while a 72MHz, 32-bit processor supports governing with adjustable parameters.
The controller measures 84.3x38.2x20.4mm and weighs 107g, defining its installation envelope and mass contribution. Its wiring configuration comprises red and black 12AWG input leads, each 150mm long, plus three black 12AWG motor leads measuring 100mm each. Input connectors are absent; the motor outputs use female 4.0mm gold connectors. Electrical ratings are 120A continuous and 150A peak with a 3-6S LiPo input. The BEC specification is 5-8V at 10A; its feature description additionally states continuous current over 10A and a 25A peak.
A separate programming port provides access for configuration and recorded flight data, including minimum voltage, maximum temperature and standardized RPM; speed-curve recording applies in Heli Governing Store mode. Supported programming devices are the LCD Program Box, WiFi Module and OTA Programmer. Transmitter programming, the LED Program Card and LED Program Box are unsupported. Firmware upgrades are supported. DEO active freewheeling is incorporated into the motor drive, alongside protections for ESC and capacitor temperature, overload, throttle-signal loss and low-voltage cutoff.
