The Honeycomb Aerospace HC-140 is a complete fixed-wing flight platform, not an airframe-only kit. Its tasks include border patrol, forest fire prevention, nuclear radiation monitoring, pipeline inspection, material delivery and flight training. The airframe is made of carbon fiber composite material. The aircraft is built to carry large loads and to fly stably and efficiently over long missions while staying easy to operate. It carries a maximum payload of 35kg and has a maximum endurance of 6h. Takeoff and landing are fully autonomous and are performed from a takeoff run.
Propulsion comes from a two-cylinder, horizontally opposed, air-cooled, two-stroke engine. It uses electronic fuel injection and mixed lubrication, and runs on gasoline mixed with engine oil at a 50:1 ratio. Fuel tank capacity is listed as 30L-50L. With the 30L tank, the aircraft can fly 650km. The flight controller has triple-redundant GPS/MINS navigation built in. It supports one-key automatic takeoff, landing, hovering, circling, return, altitude hold and parachute deployment, along with autonomous cruise on preplanned routes. It also provides flight status monitoring, alarms and emergency protection, and it can fly beyond visual range automatically.
For mission equipment, the HC-140 has a universal payload platform that accepts several types of load. One option is a dual-lens camera with 30x zoom, AI functions, an infrared camera and a laser rangefinder with a range of up to 5km. Another is a two-axis triple-lens camera with 30x optical zoom, a 640×512 infrared camera and a 3km rangefinder. An airborne communication base station can provide broadband wireless access during emergency rescue and to restore communications after a disaster. Third-party payloads can also be customized. The aircraft is operated through Honeycomb's intelligent control software.
