Product overview

The Unicore UM980 is a multifrequency GNSS RTK positioning module developed by Unicore Communications, Inc. For surveying and mapping, precision agriculture, UAVs and autonomous robots. Built around the NebulasIV UC9810 GNSS SoC, it combines radio-frequency reception, baseband processing and RTK positioning calculations. Its 1408 channels support signals from BDS, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS and NavIC. For civilian drones, its purpose is to provide precise navigation and positioning data as an integrated component. The module uses a 54-pin LGA package measuring 22 × 17 × 2.6 mm.

Specified RTK accuracy is 0.8 cm + 1 ppm horizontally and 1.5 cm + 1 ppm vertically, expressed as RMS values. These figures use a 1 km baseline and receivers with good antenna performance, excluding possible antenna phase-center offset errors. Results also depend on atmospheric conditions, baseline length, antenna type, multipath, visible satellites and satellite geometry. RTK positioning output reaches up to 50 Hz in specific modes. The UM980 also supports B2b-PPP, E6-HAS and QZSS L6E (MADOCA) PPP services; specified PPP accuracy is 5 cm horizontally and 10 cm vertically after 20 minutes under open skies without interference.

The UM980 operates from a 3.0–3.6 V DC supply, with typical power consumption of 480 mW and an operating temperature range of -40 to +85 °C. It provides three UART interfaces, PPS output and an event input. I2C, SPI and CAN require specific firmware or hardware, and CAN shares pins with UART3. Antenna power must be supplied externally because the module does not provide internal antenna feeding. A separate antenna supply rail is recommended to reduce the risk of antenna-side electrostatic discharge, surges or overvoltage reaching the module's main supply.
