The Scorpion A2-7422-170kv is a BLDC propulsion motor for freestyle and UAV airplanes, intended for installations requiring a 70cc-equivalent gas engine on 14s LiPo or up to 7350w of power. Its electromagnetic architecture combines a 74 mm diameter, 22 mm thick stator with 24 stator arms and 28 magnet poles. Construction uses 0.2mm silicon steel stator sheets and high-temperature enamel-coated copper wire windings rated above 200C+. The motor has a speed constant of 170 RPM / Volt, an 8+9T 4Y winding and 7-Strand x 0.33mm wire.
Installation space must accommodate the 86.4mm x 60.8mm motor body, an additional 20mm prop spacer and a 10mm external shaft. Motor-only weight is 959.4g (33.84 oz), increasing to 1124g (39.65 oz) with the mount and prop mount accessories. This is a propulsion motor package for airframe integration. It includes one A2-7422 BLDC motor, an A2-74 cross mount, an A2-74 prop mount, three female 6mm bullet connectors, three Scorpion stickers and an accessory hardware pack. Weight including packaging is 1484.6g.
Continuous ratings are 80A and 4400 Watts, with continuous current subject to power-percentage reduction factors. Peak ratings are 135A and 7350 Watts; peak power applies to intermittent full-throttle use for 10–180 seconds depending on use case and cooling. The maximum rated LiPo cell count is 14s, with higher counts possible using smaller propellers. Recommended 14s propellers are Scorpion 24x10 Carbon, 24x12 carbon or 25x10 Carbon; 12s options are 25x10, 25.5x13 or 26x10. The recommended controller is the Tribunus III 14-150A ESC SBEC.
