The HOBBYWING Platinum 150A V5 is a brushless aircraft electronic speed controller with helicopter speed-governing functions and fixed-wing braking modes. Its regular-voltage configuration accepts 3-8S LiPo input and carries continuous and peak current ratings of 150A and 180A. A 32-bit processor supports fully adjustable fixed-speed sensitivity, while synchronous rectification incorporates DEO, also described as Active Freewheeling. The built-in programmable BEC supplies onboard electronics, and protection functions cover start-up, current, temperature, overload, throttle signal loss and input voltage.
The controller occupies 83x37x21mm and weighs 140g. Its two-sided hollow circuit-board architecture provides an open path for internal cooling airflow. Supplied wiring comprises one red and one black 10AWG input lead, each 150mm long, plus three black 12AWG output leads, each 120mm long. There is no input connector; the outputs have 4.0mm female gold connectors. The BEC specification lists switch-mode 5-8V, 10A output, while the feature description separately gives 5.4-8.4V adjustment in 0.1V steps, more than 10A continuous current and 30A instantaneous current.
A separate programming port supports an LCD program box and wireless programming; transmitter, LED card and LED box programming are unsupported. Firmware updates require an LCD parameter setup box or OTA module. VBar telemetry and flight-data recording provide monitoring options, including minimum voltage, maximum current and maximum temperature; speed-curve recording is associated with helicopter storage fixed-speed mode. For fixed-wing integration, brake-off, ordinary, proportional and reverse modes are available. Proportional braking follows throttle-stick position, and reverse mode allows remote control of forward and reverse.
