The HOBBYWING P85M is a P Series high-voltage propulsion set for multirotor aircraft, combining a motor, electronic speed controller and carbon fiber composite propeller. It has a rated thrust of 85 kg, with maximum thrust specifications of 173 kg / 178 kg and maximum continuous output power of 11.5 kW / 13.3 kW. Its operating voltage range is 315–480 V, with a rated voltage of 355 V; the 400V platform designation is not a maximum voltage rating. Propeller options are the MSC 73x25 and MSC 64x35.
The motor has a 10.5 KV rating, 36 slots and 42 poles. The ESC supports CAN and RS485 communication, fault data and logs, and CAN+RS485, CAN+PWM or RS485+PWM throttle inputs. Its PWM pulse range is 1100–1940 μs, without calibration support. Continuous ESC current is 47 A, while the maximum is 120 A for 10 seconds. The propulsion set and motor have IPX5 protection ratings, while the ESC is rated IP67. The set accommodates an 80 mm diameter carbon tube with a 5 mm wall thickness and operates at ambient temperatures from -25 to 55 °C.
Integration requires an external high-voltage power distribution unit with a pre-charge circuit because the ESC lacks built-in high-voltage pre-charge. Direct connection to a high-voltage battery is prohibited: the resulting inrush current can cause sparks and reduce product service life. The 24 V relay-coil supply must be electrically isolated from the high-voltage DC bus. After high-voltage power-on, the ESC must receive flight-controller commands before performing its self-check; otherwise, the pre-charge resistor may be damaged.
