FTDI Tool V1.0

By RCTimer ↗

The RCTimer FTDI Tool V1.0 is an FT232RL USB-to-serial breakout board with a bottom-mounted six-pin header and TX/RX LEDs. DTR enables automatic reset during sketch downloads when the Arduino target routes its reset pin to a six-pin connector. It ships at 5V; switching power output and IO to 3.3V requires cutting a trace and adding a solder jumper.

Product overview

The RCTimer FTDI Tool V1.0 provides a USB-to-serial interface built around the FTDI FT232RL. Its physical layout uses a surface-mounted six-pin header on the underside, giving the revised board a more compact form. The connector pinout follows the FTDI cable arrangement for official Arduino and cloned 5V Arduino boards. It also supports general serial applications, making its integration role a connection between USB and a serial target. BLK and GRN markings provide alignment references corresponding to ground and CTS.

The board exposes DTR for automatic reset during Arduino sketch downloads. This function requires the target's reset pin to be routed to its six-pin connector; with that connection, downloading does not require a manual reset-button press. Separate TX and RX LEDs show serial activity. The supplied voltage setting is 5V, while a jumper arrangement on the rear permits 3.3V operation for both power output and IO level. Changing to 3.3V requires cutting the default trace and adding a solder jumper.
