The DJI Matrice 3TD is a DJI Dock 2 aircraft configured for inspection and security operations, combining a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 12-megapixel telephoto camera and an infrared camera. It integrates RTK positioning and supports lens defogging and wireless charging. For dock-based operation, it works only with DJI Dock 2; manual flight is also supported using a paired DJI RC Pro Enterprise controller. Its mapping output does not meet high-precision mapping requirements: the Matrice 3D is the model intended to meet 1:500 high-precision mapping requirements.

The thermal camera uses an uncooled vanadium oxide (VOx) sensor and supports spot and area temperature measurements. Its measurement ranges are -20°C to 150°C in high-gain mode and 0°C to 500°C in low-gain mode, with stated accuracy of ±2°C or ±2%, whichever is greater. Standard thermal imagery is 640 × 512 at 30 fps. With infrared super-resolution enabled, 1280 × 1024 output can switch on or off automatically according to ambient brightness. Directing the infrared lens at strong energy sources, including the sun, lava or laser beams, can permanently damage the sensor.

The aircraft has an IP54 protection rating and an operating temperature range of -20°C to 45°C. Wind resistance is 12 m/s during operations and 8 m/s during takeoff and landing. Its six-direction obstacle sensing has a 10° blind spot above and behind the aircraft. Visual sensing requires illumination above 15 lux and suitably textured surfaces; downward sensing additionally requires a diffusely reflective surface with reflectivity above 20%. These conditions constrain obstacle detection during inspection flights, particularly around poorly lit or visually uniform surfaces.
