JOUAV describes complementary positioning roles for its CW Series survey drones: RTK supports precise takeoff and landing, while PPK supports the collection of survey data.
The JOUAV CW-15 is designed for aerial surveying and 3D mapping. It supports multiple payload configurations for different mapping applications.
RTK corrects GPS position data as a drone flies over a survey area.
RTK requires communication between the drone and its GNSS base station. Suitable terrain is flat, with trees and mountains clear of the communication signal; the source conditions the availability of accuracy data after landing on signals remaining constant.
A stable RTK link is an operating requirement. Signal loss can cause calibration data to be lost and leave potentially inaccurate gaps during flight.
In a PPK workflow, the base station and rover record raw GNSS data and store it until fieldwork ends. Software then processes the observations and applies corrections.
PPK does not depend on a continuous correction data link. This distinction is relevant to surveys where interruptions could affect real-time RTK corrections.
