Xibei Gongye Daxue Shenzhen Yanjiuyuan is a research institute established in Shenzhen in April 2000 as an independent public institution by its parent university. Its work includes scientific research, technology development, academic exchange, technology transfer and business incubation. It also provides postgraduate training that does not cover the full educational process, alongside other training and consulting. The institute focuses on technological innovation and talent development in support of the university and Shenzhen’s economic and social development.

The institute independently developed a drone for towing paragliders into flight. Its documented hardware work combines towing capability with flight control and adaptability to launch sites, addressing takeoff needs for recreational paragliders and professional athletes. This aircraft is an example of the institute’s own civilian drone development for aviation sport.

To advance the technology’s application and development, the institute incubated Shenzhen Aoxiang Weilan Keji Youxian Zeren Gongsi, a technology business focused on developing equipment for low-altitude sports. This connects the institute’s paraglider-towing research with a dedicated equipment developer. The company describes further research and development as part of its plans to improve launch experiences for athletes and enthusiasts.

A June 2026 notice announced a proposed transfer of the institute’s patents covering a towing drone, its appearance design, and a control method, system and drone for paraglider towing. The proposed recipient was Shenzhen Aoxiang Weilan Keji Youxian Zeren Gongsi. The notice documents a planned technology-transfer step.
