Research Institute of Advanced Materials (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd (RIAM) is an advanced materials research institution established in 2023 through cooperation between China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group (CISRI) and the Shenzhen Municipal Government. A wholly owned subsidiary of CISRI, RIAM links materials research with engineering applications across design, manufacturing and use. Its priorities include advanced additive manufacturing, special metallurgy and data-driven materials service life management. Big data and artificial intelligence underpin its research in advanced energy, next-generation electronics, transportation, marine engineering, aerospace and life sciences.
RIAM’s exhibited power-system range comprises a 300 kW turbine-electric hybrid aviation propulsion system and 1–10 kW hydrogen fuel cell systems. The turbine-electric program supports its work on propulsion for low-altitude aviation, while hydrogen fuel cell development targets unmanned aerial vehicles and robots. Drawing on high-performance metallic materials and advanced manufacturing, RIAM is pursuing research and exploring industrialization of these systems, connecting its materials expertise with power-system development for aircraft and robotic equipment.
